The young child lies on its back between its parents. The hands on the head of both parents represents eminent death, lament and deep sorrow among these people. The family is supported on a hollow tube which is sealed on either end. Magical ingredients and other objects are often inserted into such orifices. An owl and a bat stand guard on either end. Magical beads have been inserted throughout the scuplture. The bat measures 9x7x2 inches. The owl measures 9x4x2 inches. The parents measure 8x4x3 each. The child measures 5x2x2 inches. This item in a villlage in northeastern Angola. |
